Andrew Wicks studied Ceramics and Glass at the RCA, graduating with an MA in 1997. He was then awarded a ‘Setting up grant’ by the Crafts Council in 1999.
Having worked in slip-cast porcelain for over 10 years, Wicks started throwing porcelain from 2006. Once thrown the vessels are turned and the design is carefully carved using hand tools.
Andrew Wicks usually works in groups of vessels as he enjoys the visual relationship between the forms. The textured surfaces evident in his work are often inspired by patterns found in the natural world such as fossils, coral reefs and magnified plant forms.
