Anthony Bryant lives and works from his studio at home in Cornwall. He specialises in green woodturning - turning the piece on the lather while still wet and subsequently allowing it to shift and change shape as it dries - which allows him to create vessels that push the boundaries of the material. His pieces represent a dialogue between the artist’s technical control and the chance movement of the wood
He only uses English wood, predominantly oak and ash, concentrating on honing very thin walls.
'I am not concerned with function in my work. Instead, I prefer to explore the sculptural potential of the vessel at the physical limits of woodturning. My driving aim is to create powerful forms with poise and presence.'
