Ritsue Mishima was born in Japan but moved to Venice in 1989. Having established a residence in Kyoto in 2011, she lives and works between the two cities.
In 1996 she began collaborating with glassmiths on Murano Island. She creates clear glass sculptures, exploring light, volume and how the work becomes part of an environment.
Her work is held in a number of private and public collections and she was selected to show in the 2009 Venice Biennale. ShugoArts in Tokyo held a major solo exhibition of her works in 2022.
